Training in Southern Shaolin Kung Fu covers a wide variety of topics and training can vary week to week. The foundation systems and techniques are always covered in every session and additional time is then used to cover more specialised skills such as specialised forms, semi-contact sparring and weapon sparring.

How do I start training at Cardiff Kung Fu Academy?

Simply fill in the form opposite and we will call you to answer any queries you may have and book your in for your trial.

Do I need to be fit to start training in Kung Fu?

No. Training in Kung Fu will build your fitness slowly over time. Sifu Pete Fry is also a highly qualified and extremely experienced Personal Trainer so any health conditions or physical issues you may have will be taken into account and handled professionally.

Do I need any prior martial arts experience?

No. Our classes cater for students of all abilities and we welcome complete beginners.

Will I get hurt?

No. Your safety when training is of the utmost importance and every care is taken to ensure you are kept safe. That said, accidents can and do happen during every form of exercise and we are fully insured to protect you.

What should I wear to train?

For you trial sessions at Cardiff Kung Fu Academy you’ll need to wear comfortable training clothes – a t-shirt and jogging bottoms will be fine.

Will I be using weapons?

Weapons training is an important part of Kung Fu and we introduce students to the Southern Monkey Stick first. After completing your trial period at the school you will have the chance to train using weapons on a weekly basis.

Are there gradings?

Yes, we hold gradings every term (3 per year) to assess your progress. You don’t have to go for a grading every term but if you are ready you are encouraged to do so to test yourself!
